10.02.10 thrift digs
Another round of thrift store vinyl, average price about 65 cents each.
A cool 1977 compilation on the New World Records label. This has some great stuff from the always hot Booker Little Sextet, the Steve Lacy Quartet (doing Cecil Taylor’s “Louise”) and the Serge Chaloff Sextet, a pleasant new discovery.
Likely from the same deceased person as the above. Classic Duke with a classic lineup featuring Clark Terry, Johnny Hodges et al.
How bad could it be? Please don’t answer that just yet.
Willie and gang ca. 1979 (Bee Spears, Mickey Raphael, Paul English etc.) give Kris Kristofferson the treatment. In addition to better known fare, they also give “The Pilgrim Chapter 33″ a spin.
My wife and I collect Jan Howard albums. No, really. Never seen this one, on the MCA Coral imprint. It has four Bill Anderson compositions … and one by Gordon Lightfoot.
